Kelly Clarkson Reunites With 'American Idol' Alum Justin Guarini

Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this!

For the first time in years, Kelly Clarkson reunited with her former American Idol costar Justin Guarini this week. The reunion came when Guarini appeared as a special guest on Wednesday's episode (September 18) of The Kelly Clarkson Show alongside the singing competition show's three original judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul.

For inquiring minds, Guarini and Clarkson were among the first contestants to compete during Idol's inaugural season, which premiered in 2002. As fans of the show know, the 37-year-old famously became the first-ever American Idol champion, and Guarini was her runner-up. The aspiring singers, who forged a friendship during the competition, went on to star alongside each other in a pretty forgettable musical romcom, of which the 40-year-old quipped, "Thank god that we're so much more than that movie."

It's been 16 years since then, and much like audience members, we imagine viewers at home were just as delighted to see the old friends catching up again. Since Idol, the father of two has held a number of acting, singing, hosting, and producing gigs throughout his career — most notably, perhaps, his 2017 Diet Dr. Pepper commercial, for which Clarkson praised Guarini's hilarious talent.

Not to mention, Cowell, the infamously-known tough critic on Idol, actually gave Guarini quite the stellar compliment for his audition, recalling, "When you walked out of the room, we literally went, 'Thank you, god,' because at that point, things weren't going great on the show."
